\Spat\, n. [Short for {Spatterdash}.] 1. A legging; a gaiter. [Scot. & Dial. Eng.] 2. A kind of short cloth or leather gaiter worn over the upper part of the shoe and fastened beneath the instep; -- chiefly in pl.
