\Next\ (n[e^]kst), a., superl. of {Nigh}. [AS. n[=e]hst, ni['e]hst, n[=y]hst, superl. of ne['a]h nigh. See {Nigh}.] 1. Nearest in place; having no similar object intervening. --Chaucer.
