\Mat"e*lote\, Matelotte \Mat"e*lotte\, n. [F. matelote, fr. matelot a sailor; properly, a dish such as a sailors prepare.] 1. A stew, commonly of fish, flavored with wine, and served with a wine sauce containing onions, mushrooms, etc. 2. An old dance of sailors, in double time, and somewhat like a hornpipe.
