A binary compound of chlorine with another element or radical; as, chloride of sodium (common salt). {Chloride of ammonium}, sal ammoniac. {Chloride of lime}, bleaching powder; a grayish white substance, {CaOCl2}, used in bleaching and disinfecting; -- called more properly {calcium hypochlorite}.
