an Old French plural from an assumed dim. of robe, probably
in the sense of trash; cf. It. robaccia trash, roba stuff,
goods, wares, robe. Thus, etymologically rubbish is the pl.
of rubble. See {Robe}, and cf. {Rubble}.]
