2. Consisting in the absence of something; not positive;
negative.

3. (Gram.) Implying privation or negation; giving a negative
force to a word; as, alpha privative; privative particles;
-- applied to such prefixes and suffixes as a- (Gr. ?),
un-, non-, -less.
